Holiday Cookie CutterDesign Competition

Are you in the Holiday Spirit?

Are you ready to spread Holiday Joy and show off your Computer Aided Design (CAD) skills?

Here is your chance!  ECPI students are challenged with creating a unique cookie cutter design which will be 3d printed and used to make real cookies. 

3 winners will be chosen based on design complexity, drawing skills, and creativity.  Campus students, staff, and faculty will all have a chance to participate in the judging!

Winners will receive $50 Amazon.com gift cards and priceless bragging rights!

Sample Designs:

Competition Rules:

·         Design cannot exceed the following dimensions:

o    The depth of the cookie cutter should be ½” to 1”.

o    Length and width can not exceed 4”

·         You must email the following files to Mr. Vedat Aksoy (vaksoy@ecpi.edu) by 8pm on Wednesday, December 14.

o    Complete CAD design file

o    3D view of Design to be included

o    “.STL” file for the 3D printer

·         Students must remain active and in good standing with the University through the duration of the competition in order to maintain eligibility to participate

·         All designs must be original – usage of design from existing online sites is not permitted.

·         All listed deadlines are final.

Judging Criteria:

·         3 “Technical” winners will be selected by a panel of ECPI Staff and Faculty based on:

o    Complexity of design

o    Drawing Skills

o    Creativity

·         An additional “People’s Choice” winner will be awarded for the design that earns the most votes from students, staff, and faculty.

Competition Prizes:

·         The three winners selected by a panel of ECPI Staff and Faculty will each get a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

·         The winner of the “People’s Choice” award will also receive a $50 Amazon Gift Card.

·         One design can win the judges category and the people’s choice category, meaning one student can win 2 $50 Amazon Gift Cards.


Competition Resources:

·         Students may use any 3D modeling software (Autodesk, Inventor, Fusion 360) to create their design.

·         Students are encouraged to use the campus Makerspace to 3D print prototypes of their design before submitting a final version.

·         Culinary Institute of Virginia has provided a Sugar Cookie recipe (see next page) that will be used for testing cookie cutter designs. Please note, the dough used to test cookie cutter designs will be ¼” thick.

Competition Timeline:

·         12/14/2022 – 8:00pm: Deadline to email competition design files to Vedat Aksoy (Vaksoy@ecpi.edu). EARLY SUBMISSIONS ARE WELCOME. 

·         12/16/2022 – Cookie bake-off at Culinary Institute of Virginia

·         12/19/2022 – Technical Winner’s announced

·         01/03/2022 – Voting Closes

·         01/06/2023 – People’s Choice Winner Announced!
